OMG! I've been neglecting my blog again and surprisingly I've even nearly forgotten my own password. I have not been very hardworking in terms of "playing with wire" and seed beads because of other priorities. Frankly speaking, not only my blog that I've been neglecting ...... my "plot of garden" in front and the back is overgrown with "lallangs" and unwanted plants!!

Anyway ..... that's that.

Just a few days ago, I received an email from Ms Bobbe Blessel enquiring about the wire wrapped adjustable beaded ring which was posted in www.allfreebeadedjewelry.com's website and would like to share what she has written ~

"Just had to write and tell you what an inspiration you have been to me. I was just looking at your pattern for the wire wrapped adjustable beaded ring on all free beaded jewelry. Wow!!! I have been wanting to do the wire wrapping but was feeling that all the other patterns were just not giving me the confidence to be able to do it. After going through the pattern I know I can. Just loved the earrings to! If you have other patterns for sale somewhere on the internet I would love to know where they are. As I said I have not done this before but would love to be able to do the earrings also but don't have a clue how to get it started. Know the basics of the pattern because you explained it so well. If I could get the pattern I would be so appreciative to get it.

Hi there! Am back here again .... just to wish everyone

A Very Happy Chinese New Year.

As you all know, Chinese New Year is fast approaching and every one is busy in preparations for the coming festival which falls on the 23rd of January. There's so many things to be done, eg. washing and cleaning the house, baking cookies, decorating, buying essential items, etc. I wonder why we must wait till this day to do the washing and cleaning and painting (for some). Blah.....blah......blah....

The new peony flowers as decoration for this year but using old vase, old bamboo sticks and old new year hangings to save $$$$$.

Ok... I'll have to go for now.

Till then, hope all of you will enjoy yourself during this festival and have a safe journey to where your destination is.

Bead Embroidered Adjustable Ring

Hello....hello... This is my second post for the year 2012 and I would like to share some pictures of my first attempt at bead embroidery. I embroidered them using acrylic flatbacks as the focal and embroidered seed beads in different colours and sizes. The flatbacks are first glued onto a stiff fabric, embroidered and then covered with felt (couldn't get ultraseude or faux leather).

Welcome 2012 .......

Can you believe it's the new year? What happened in 2011 and where did it go? As the dust settled and pave way to a brand new year greeted by fireworks, revellers said goodbye to the old year with rejoiced in the promise of opportunities, hopes and dreams that come with all new beginnings. While 2011 was an uneventful year, hopefully 2012 will hold

the promise of better things.

KEEPING TO OUR RESOLUTIONS

With the start of the new year, it is time again for resolutions. How many of us genuinely keep our resolutions?

For me, it is either ever or never. Some say that they will do it tomorrow. But that tomorrow may never come.

Today, we can't trust our bodies. There is a discipline for everything, but no discipline for death.

Hold that determined thought - that I have to do it; do or die. Whatever you have to do today, do it now. It is now or never.

If you fail, start again, Don't look at failure as a permanent defeat, but consider it as a pause.

A pause is part of the journey of life which helps us to gather energy and move on.

Determination is being focused, not scattered; never allowing laziness or excuses to enter.

Ask yourself: "Why am I here? What do I want out of life?"

Tell yourself: "I want to lead a purposeful life and I am prepared to face difficulties."

It is good not to make too many pledges. You will not remember them, much less put them into practice. Just one or two will do and stick to them. Never compromise your discipline because of someone.

Determination does not bring success instantly but with patience and faith, it will happen.

To promise means to bring benefit to the self and others. With determination, there is no termination. It is translating challenges into opportunities.

So...... what's your new year resolutions?

Beaded Bezel Jasper Cabochon Pendant ~ Personal Collection

Today is Sunday, 11th September 2011 and the whole house is so quiet and peaceful and this is what I like the most. With children and hubby out of the house except for mum and myself, I can do just about anything in a quiet environment. Have not been doing much for the past two weeks though, except for a little bit of this and that.

The picture below is of a beaded bezel Jasper cabochon pendant which I made for myself. A very simple pendant which hangs from a matching crocheted beaded rope necklace. The 30 x 40mm cabochon is large enough to attract attention.

In the meantime this piece will be kept away until an opportunity calls for it.

I've been away too long from my wires and I missed them although I can see "them" peeking at me from their rightful place on my table. Hopefully, I'll be playing with "them" again in no time.

So, in the meantime, have a wonderful Monday and a productive week ahead.

Crocheted Beaded Rope Lariat with Leave Fringe

Hi peeps.... how is everyone getting on? Today, 30th of August is the first day of Hari Raya and tomorrow we'll be celebrating Malaysia's Independence Day not forgetting that it is also the school holidays. I think most of us are already in the holiday mood and back in their respective hometown for those celebrating Hari Raya. Anyway.... please be careful and have a pleasant and safe journey to where you're heading.

Just wanna share with you this crocheted beaded rope lariat which took me almost two weeks to complete (with breaks in between of course).

The long beaded rope is crocheted from white seed beads and the leave fringe is painstakingly stitched one by one to form the tassles.

The length of the beaded rope to end of fringe is approximately 40" long. The rope alone is 33.5" and the tassle is between 6.5" - 7" long. Diameter of rope is 0.6cm.

This lariat can be made shorter or longer depending on preference. It can also be turned into a belt if required.

Beaded Rose Quartz Cabochon ~ Pendant

Hello again! Here's another piece that I've completed. As a matter of fact, this is the first piece that I started on before the beaded turquoise donut pendant but crocheting the all-white beaded rope necklace took a lot of my time (stringing very long lengths of japanese seed beads & then crocheting it)

I've use peyote stitch for this Rose Quartz cabochon (30 x 40 mm) with small fringes around it. The opened back of the cab is also stitched up and looks as good as the front.

Beaded Turquoise Donut Pendant

Okay, here is something that I got done over the weekend. This is my first peyote stitch beaded pendant and more is to come. I have always admire those beautiful beaded pendants in Etsy and have even thought of owning a piece, but now that I have already learned (through trial and error and wasted threads!) the peyote stitch, I am gonna make one for myself.

This pendant is stitched with size 11 & 15 Miyuki seed beads and Turquoise Donut as the focal.

Beaded Stitched Bracelet ...... with seed beads

Okay, a couple of stuff that I got done over the weekend ..........

This is my first bead stitched bracelet (Colour Swirls) from Marcie Abney's design (Beadwork Magazine, June/July 2010). The pattern of swirling colours in this fluid bracelet makes them complex, the look is easy to achieve by stitching multi-coloured rounds of circular peyote stitch.

I made many pieces but a few was unsuccessful due to broken seed beads as needle tried to pass through the holes and had to stitch them all over again.

I got carried away after the first bracelet and did another piece just to practice on the technique (as they say.... practice makes perfect, right?)

These bracelets are so light in weight that you don't realise wearing

it on your wrist.

Hello...... thanks for dropping by! I know it's been more than a week since you heard from me last but bead stitching time have taken me away from the computer and deny me the time to play with my wires. In addition, I've been having problem with poor quality pictures ever since I dropped my hp camera on numerous occassions. Getting a DSRL (or is it DRSL?) camera is my last resort as my son has also been persuading me to get one.

Crocheting beads into .............

Hello gals and guys (if there's any)....... everything's quiet again as today is a schooling day. I had taken some time off from wirework and had a "busy day" the whole of Saturday and Sunday stringing meters and meters of beads and crocheting them into jewelries. I am so addicted to this now. It's not that am gonna stop playing with wires but just to try out other things.

Finally, I managed to upload some pictures here after encountering problems earlier. The pictures are not very clear though as some pictures I uploaded tended to be upside down and whatnots.

Anyway..... here's what I completed and there's a few more to be done.

These flexible bead crocheted necklaces (turkish loops)

are made out of plain/twisted bugle beads and japanese seed beads.

The length of each is about 17" - 18", including the toggle clasp.

The diameter of the rope is about 0.8 cm.

Plain white bugle beads with light/dark blue japanese seed beads.

Twisted silverlined bugle beads with black japanese seed beads.

This is a crocheted beaded rope bracelet. It looks stiff but very flexible when worn. The diameter of the rope is approximately 0.8cm but could also be made slightly slimmer or broader. This beaded rope bracelet will be custom-made to your wrist size.

They are all available for customization, be it necklace or bracelet. Just convo me your choice of colours (many colours available) and preferred length for the necklace.

Hi everyone.........

I know, I know.... I've been lacking behind in updating my blog again. Thousand apologies!

Took a short break from wirework and now into crocheting with seed/bugle beads. Been at it for the past two weeks or so.

Handmade Wirework Jewelry ~ Chinese Button Earrings (East Meets West)

These earrings are the latest that I've completed. They're Chinese Buttons that you used in Cheongsam dress and "Samfoo" (traditional chinese costume) and I've turned them into earrings. I call it "east meets west" as I've used the chainmaille technique to link them together.

Handmade Wire Wrapped Jewelry - Hair Pins

Had a lot of free time on my hands, so this is what I did ~ Hair Pins

These U-shaped hair pins are done entirely with 18g wire and they measure 3" long. The top part which consists of freshwater pearls, swarovski pearls and bicones and Czech glass leave shaped beads were twisted together to form the sprayed part.

Free Tutorial ~ Wire Wrapped Beaded Adjustable Ring

Whoah ........... at last I managed to upload these pictures! (it gave me a sense of accomplishment!). It took me about half an hour to upload these pictures as initially I didn't know how to upload them in proper sequence and I had to delete and upload them all over again. NOW I KNOW what it's like to do a tutorial!

So..... this is the tutorial that I promised ~ a Wire Wrapped Beaded Adjustable Ring. This simple and easy ring is for those who have learned the basics of wirework and would like to try this out. It looks similar to the "Opposites Attract" Ring that I crafted awhile back but this one uses crystals/pearls/gemstone beads and seed beads, and of course, wire.

Wire Wrapped Beaded Adjustable Ring

Ok, let's start ......... =)

Tools & Materials:

18 gauge artistic wire (colour of your choice)

26/28 gauge artistic wire (for this ring I use 26g)

2 x 8mm beads of your choice

Some seed beads

Flush Cutter

Round Nose Plier

Chain Nose

Ring Mandrel

Ruler

Marker Pen

Step 1

~ Making the ring base ~

Cut a piece of 18 gauge artistic wire measuring 7" long.

Centre the wire onto the ring mandrel for your finger size as seen in the pic.

Make sure there's equal length on both sides of remaining wire.

Step 2

Turn/shape the wire into a teardrop/paisley shape using the marker pen (as shown)

It will look like the picture below.

(Note: When using smaller or bigger beads, adjust the width frame according to your style)

Let's go to the next step ..............

Step 3

Use your round nose plier to make a small loop at the end of the teardrop shape.

Do the same for the opposite side.

Step 4

~ Coiling ~

Measure and cut about 5 feet of the 26 gauge wire to start coiling the whole ring base. If you have a larger finger size, you may want to cut slightly longer than 5 feet.

Start coiling at which ever end you prefer or comfortable with.

The completed coiled base, with slightly more than 12" of excess wire.

Please do not cut this wire as we're going to use it to wrap/coil the seed beads onto the base.

Step 5

~ Attaching the 8mm beads ~

Cut a piece of 26g wire, measuring 2"

Slip an 8mm round bead through the wire & place it in the middle. Place the bead & 26g wire in the middle of the frame or where the bead can be fitted in.

Wrap both sides of the frame twice with the 26g wire & bring it back to the front

to wrap it around itself twice.

Trim the excess 26g wire with a cutter & press it against the frame

with your chain nose plier.

Do the same for the opposite side.

(Note: You may use your own preferred method to attach the beads)

Let's take a look at Step 6 ......

Step 6

~ Coiling/wrapping the seed beads ~

Use the excess coiling wire (from Step 4) to start wrapping the seed beads.

Make a couple of wraps near the loop & start inserting your seed beads. I use 3 seed beads in alternating colours to make it more interesting.

After inserting the seed beads, wrap it around the frame, bring the wire from front to back and on top of the frame. Insert another 3 seed beads and start wrapping the same way until you reach the other end near the loop

where you started.

Make sure that the seed beads are on top of the frame.

Wrap the 26g wire a few times around the loop (as shown) and trim of any excess wire.

Don't forget to press the wire against the frame with your chain nose plier.

Start wrapping the seed beads for the other side by cutting a piece of new 26g wire, measuring 12 inches. Please follow Step 6.

Back view of the ring, as neat as the front.

You may want to adjust the ring on the mandrel again for the right fit.

Voila! You're Done!

Below are a couple of pictures that I've done with this technique. I have since made a few rings and stud earrings with different colours to match my wardrobe.

Handmade Wire Wrapped Adjustable Ring

Hello again as Emily is back from her unofficial break.

I am so happy (well, not just me but every member in the family!) now that we got back our computer from the workshop yesterday and here I am updating my blog again.

Been playing with wires and seed beads and ended up with this adjustable ring. It looks something like the "Opposites Attract" Adjustable Ring that I made awhile back but this one uses seed beads around the frame.

I've thought of doing a tutorial (for free) for this very simple and easy ring which is suitable for a beginner who has already learned the basics of wirework jewelry making. I'll make an attempt to do the tutorial but since I've not done it before, it could take awhile though.

So, don't forget to drop by my blog from time to time to check it out.

Vanishing act..

Oh my......I am doing it again.... the vanishing act I mean!

I've been away too long and have not been putting my thinking brain to good use lately. The computer has been invaded by viruses and is now waiting to be repaired in the workshop. It has been more than four days and I feel like my world has crumbled for not being able to check my emails and surf the net.

I am now using the internet service at a cyber cafe, which is my first visit here. Hopefully the pc will be repaired soon and I can update my blog.

It's the second semester school holidays but holidays are not meant for me. I've not been crafting any jewelries either for the past 2 weeks or so, and hopefully I'll get the creative juice flowing again in no time.

In the meantime, thank you for being patient and understanding.

Basic Wire Work Jewelry Class

Hi everyone....I started my first Basic Wire Work Jewelry Class last Saturday with one student, Agnes from Seremban. Agnes initially emailed me and asked whether I conduct any wire work jewelry class. I told her that I have not attended any workshops/classes myself, therefore I have no experience in teaching. So, after numerous emails after that, I found myself conducting a class on a one-to-one basis with her.

Agnes dabbles in arts & crafts herself and wanted to learn to play with wires. She brought her own basic tools as well the materials needed for this class. She is very enthusiastic, eager to learn and a fast learner.

This is Agnes' pretties, a completed pair of earrings, a short wire wrapped & coiled bracelet and two pendants. Hopefully, this will help her to embark on her journey to wire work crafting.

Chinese Ching Ming Festival

Didn't do much crafting except for a bracelet which I posted earlier. The hot weather over here in Seremban didn't help either. The air-condition unit was switched on full blast as well which didn't help my headache which was pounding rather badly in my head.

Yesterday was Saturday and our whole family went to visit the grave of my late father in-law in Sendayan to celebrate the Chinese Ching Ming Festival. As it was still very early, there was not many people unlike last year when the whole place was like so crowded with cars and visitors.

Chinese Ching Ming is one of the 24 segments in chinese calendar and is celebrated in late March or April each year (105 days after the previous year's Winter Solstice). Ching Ming is also known as "Remembrance of Ancestor's Day".

On this particular day, the whole family will visit the ancestors' or relatives' graves. We have to carry food, fruits, incense sticks, joss sticks and paper offerings like money paper, paper clothes, paper gold ingots, etc. All of the offerings would be burnt for they believe that the departed can receive the goods and "money" this way.

Just to share with you what I have just completed making -

a wire wrapped, weaved and coiled bracelet with Czech beads and Gun Metal colour artistic wire. I so love the colour of the Czech beads

against the colour of the wire....they look so antique looking.

I have yet to explore how they look like

with other beads and colour wire.

When seed beads play a part....

I have packets and packets of seed beads left from my bead stitching days and playing with them resulted in these earrings. There are many sizes of seed beads that I didn't know of until recently when I started to study them in the beading magazines.

Well.... this Sparkly Wheels design came from a beading magazine (BeadWork, June/July 2010) that I had and wanted to share. A classic design that never goes out of style, these sparkly pretties can be incorporated into earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Turquoise and apple green sead beads.

Czech beads and white seed beads.

Swarovski pearls and maroon seed beads.

These wheels are fun to make and it takes me about half and hour or so (supposed to be 20 minutes) to stitch. Poor eye vision is the culprit and broke few needles along the way, otherwise I could probably stitch them in shorter time. Well... that's about all I have to share for the time being, thanks for stopping by.

Hello again.... and this time I'm officially back. The past few weeks have not been too good for me as I was kept busy with the preparation for the chinese new year which takes me away from my passion. Now that it's over, I can sit down and start crafting again. My work table, beads, tools, etc. are all waiting for me!

Actually this piece, a big and bold necklace was started before the festive season and I kept doing piece by piece at the very moment that I can lay my hands on. I wanted to do something like this long time ago but ......... anyway, here is the completed necklace. Don't have a name for it yet.

The large oval frame measures at 4.5 cm x 7.5cm and the smaller ones at 3.5 x 4.5cm. When worn, it rests below the collar bone.

Materials:

Anti-tarnish Artistic wire in gun metal and brass.

Mookaite gemstone carved flower, carnelian, turquoise, onyx, red coral (oil dyed), chrysocolla and Czech leaf-shape beads.

I am not sure whether I should keep the necklace as part of my collection but if there's anyone interested, I may part with it as I can always make another piece as long as I have the materials.

Hello...hello.... I am back everyone but not officially.

CNY is not over yet so I'll be back right after the festival and wait for the right mood to start wirework crafting. My tools, beads, wires, etc. have been stored away temporarily to make way for some space in the living hall but I know my hands are eager to start crafting again soon.

Oh boy!! Am I dead tired!

There goes my weekend and the one last week.

Been busy....yeah, pretty busy, not with the wires and tools in my hands but doing the spring cleaning for the whole house for the coming chinese new year. Also accompanied hubby for his cataract operation on both eyes

and I turned into a nurse right after that

as I have to apply eye drops for him every two to three hours.

Yesterday and today was spent marketing for the ingredients and vegetables and cutting them to make my "Acar" (Picked Mixed Vegetables, to be taken with keropok). This will go on for straight four days until I fulfill all my orders. This chore occurs every year nearing the chinese new year.

These (from top: Banded brown/white Agate Rice-shaped, Rose Quartz Focal Marquise-shaped bead & Ocean Jasper Focal Marquise-shaped bead) arrived a few days ago but have not decided what to do with them just yet.

I hope to find some time right after the chinese new year to start crafting again. My hands are now "itchy" and eyes darting across to my work table but I guess it'll have to wait a little longer. May have to pack away all my beads and the lots to another room until after the festival.

Alrite... I think I'll have to start cutting the vegetables again, ironing, etc. and if time permits, I'll put up the new year decorations.

Indian Feather Earrings ~ Prototype

Yeh, yeh ....it's a holiday tomorrow (14/1/11, Hari Keputeraan Tuanku Yang Di-Pertua Besar Negeri Sembilan) and straight 3 days of rest.

Did not do much crafting since the school semester started, and I discovered that I've been a bit lazy after laying off the projects on my "Will Do/To Do" list. Anyway, I am still trying to adjust myself and hope to be back crafting in no time.

By the way, here's something that I'd like to share with you. It's called Indian Feather Earrings, named by it's Polish designer, Iza Malcyzk who has a few other tutorials on her website (www.izamalcyzk.com)

Crafted with Natural Copper Anti-tarnish Artistic Wire and Swarovski Pearls.

Measurement: Length is approximately 2.6" (6.7cm), without ear wires.

Do they resemble our Petronas Twin Towers?

Chinese New Year is just around the corner and looks like I'll be busy preparing for the coming festival.

2011.... A New Year Begins

Hi, I hope it's still not too late to wish everyone who's reading this a very Happy New Year.

The new year school semester has started and it's time to hit the books again........well, not for me, of course, but my three children. The eldest and the youngest will be sitting for their SPM and UPSR respectively, and the other boy in Form 2. Luckily, all three of them are in the morning session, so I shall have some peace and tranquil to carry out the house chores.

The last school holiday last month was meant for my children but not necessarily a holiday for their mother. As a homemaker, our list of chores are endless and work never ceases.

These top and bottom pictures were taken during peak periods after school hours and it get's chaotic whenever it rains. Normally, i'll wait until all the cars are almost out of the school compound (pic below) only then I will fetch my daughter.

So, not to waste my time while waiting, I always have some magazines in the car to accompany me. It does not matter whether they've been seen many, many times, I still enjoy reading the issues.

And for me, it's back to work, work and more work and hopefully,

I can get some crafting done again after quite an absence.

New Year resolutions?
Nope, I don't make resolutions that I can't fulfil.
I guess I have some things in my "To Do List" and

there's lots of them but my priority is to the family.

I am just hoping that one fine day in the near future,

I would have more time to concentrate on my passion.

I hope I didn't bore you with my ramblings, though. It's suppose to be a short update on some wire crafting project but at the moment, my rambling is the only thing I can share.

Agatha Earrings

I'm back with this newly completed pair of earrings, made with love, passion and patience.

I named it Agatha so that it's easy for me to remember the name and

because it's adorned with

Banded Agate Gemstone 20mm round bead,

Carnelian as well as Swarovski Crystals.

Each gemstone piece is natural, therefore no two pieces are alike.

I've also used Natural Copper Artistic Wire to craft this earring.

So.... this is the bracelet I completed and mentioned earlier and is ready to be worn by me =)

Once again, I used Gun Metal Artistic Wire to bring out the colours of the gemstones that I've used to adorn this bracelet. It's a bit of hard work here doing the frames and the netting for the background, and not to mention the amount of wire used but it's worth my time and energy. I so like this very much! And I hope you do, too.

This one' s adorned with Mookite Gemstone but of a different colour combination, of red and yellow.

The focal bead is accompanied by turquoise, carnelian, coral, Czech leave beads as well as onyx.

I've used Gun Metal Artistic Wire and a matching viking knitted rope necklace to go with the pendant.

Hello...hello... I'm back but still facing the same problem with the function of the keyboard. Couldn't resolve the problem so I could only get the correct alphabets that I wanted when I press the Shift + Ctrl keys simultaneously. I was feeling so frustrated for the past one week or so due to this but nevertheless I was able to complete some wirework projects.

School holidays are here to stay for another month or so until the school term reopens on 3rd January, if am not mistaken. I'm stuck here in Seremban with no where to go.... but it's good, though, I can carry out more wirework crafts. Christmas is another 22 days more to go...... so am sure everyone is busy shopping for gifts for their loved ones. And we'll be ushering in the year 2011 (Year of the Rabbit) right after that. Talking 'bout festivals, the Chinese New Year will also take place, in the first week of February 2011. Can't imagine how fast time flies!!! And it'll be another year for me since starting this jewelry blog.

So.... enough of my ramblings. I'll be updating my blog with some pictures of my pretties that I've completed as consignment pieces.

Butterfly Dreams Earrings

This tutorial was one of the first I purchased when I got serious with wire work craft. It is only now that I managed to do the weave as it is different from other weaves I've learned. I have tried many times and was on the verge of giving up when I browse through all my tutorials. I preservered and I am very happy that I finally managed to do it. Hurray!

Hmm.......Zzzzz.......waited for more than half an hour just to upload these pictures! While waiting for it to be uploaded, I 'went' elsewhere.

I luv...luv...luv this ring! Sad to say it's not my design as it belongs to Mohd Hilmi of www.emikaz.blogspot.com. It was sometime ago that I got his tutorial but does not have the guts to make an attempt at it as it looked complicated to me at THAT time. Now that its been done, I find it's not that intimidating at all.

You can wear it either way.

This piece is done with combination of copper and brass coloured artistic wire

Fuchsia Bloom Pendant

I've got time on my hands, so this is what came out - a 3D looking Fuchsia Bloom Pendant. This pendant uses a slightly modified herringbone technique with lots of wire. I've used two different gauges of wire for this floral pendant.

This one's for keeps.

The pendant measures approximately 5.5cm in length and 3cm at its widest part (the petal).

Update on Christmas Charity Bazaar

Phew........ I finally completed the projects for the Christmas Charity Bazaar. My pretties are all packed and ready to be despatched to the organising chairperson of Leo Club. Busy........ as a bee (well.... not really!)

Just to share with all of you that I'll be (or rather my pretties) participating in the upcoming Christmas Charity Bazaar, organised by the LEO Club of Petaling Jaya Integrity (O). The proposed date and venue for the event is from 17th to 19th of December 2010 to be held at Subang Parade Shopping Centre.

Addicted to Viking Knitting technique ...

Oops.......I've done it again - the disappearing act, I mean. Didn't learn any new techniques lately but got myself addicted with the viking knitting technique. Have I gone crazy or what......?

When I first purchased the tutorial (from Jan Raven), I was a little intimidated by the technique and was wondering where I could get the draw plate (the wooden tool to draw the cord) with various sizes drilled into them. Finally I found an idea ....... the small wooden plank/board my son had used to practice his Taekwon-do kicking/punching technique and as I don't have a drill at home, I had requested nicely to someone to drill the various holes for me.

So, here are a couple of pics that I took of the bangles/bracelets that I completed few days ago.

They're hand knitted with brass and silver plated anti-tarnish copper artistic wire and adorned with Murano Glass Beads in red and black and finished with 3D Tulip end caps and handforged clasp.

I kind of like this bangle and would probably do one for myself later.

I don't know when I'll be able to update my blog again as I'll be busy for the next one week or so as I've got some projects to complete for a charity bazaar organised by the Leo Club in KL. But definitely, I'll be back.

Viking Knitting in Single Weaves - Prototypes

These bangles were done in Viking Knitting technique in single weaves.

The cord ends with a pair of Bead Caps in 3D Tulip shape and hand forged clasp.

Turquoise Oval & Round beads and bead caps were added to this bangle

that ends with a hand forged spiral clasp.

The above two pics shown how it looks when worn on the wrist.

I'll be working my next project with the Non-Tarnish Artistic Wire and we'll see how it goes with a thinner gauge.

I am looking to buy a clamp to hold down the wrench so that I can work the wire with both hands. If not, then I'll just have to make do with my pair of hands and possibly my knee, as the clamp (just joking !) =)

Viking Knitting Update

It's raining dogs and cats outside now, here in Seremban.

It's early morning and I've returned from sending the children to school.

I think I kinda like the bangle without the Turquoise beads.

I'm sort of addicted to this technique for now, so I think I'll be doing a few more !

Free Form Wire Flower Bib Necklace

A very simple Bib Necklace with free form wire flowers attached to each other with jump rings. I've used two colours here; silver and brass artistic wire. The flowers are then connected to a silver plated chain with extention.

Viking Knitting Technique

I've recently started playing around with wires for the past one week for this technique called Viking Knit.

Viking Knitting or Viking Weave is a type of wire weaving that dates back to the 8th Century and is one of the oldest known forms of knitting. The woven structure consists of interconnected loops so that it resembles knitted fabric, hence the name. The weaving is made around a base, called a mandrel, and the resulting woven tube is (usually) pulled through a drawplate which stretches the chain, condense the stitches, and makes the chain flexible.

This technique is perfect for making a cord for bracelets, necklaces and even earrings.

For this learning purpose, I've used the normal wire in thinner gauge (this one is about 22g I think and it's quite hard) from the hardware store so that it will not be wasted if mistakes were made. Actual wire gauge to be used should be 24 or 26g.

The tutorial I got was from Jan Raven at JewelryLessons.com

Loops are created around a base, the mandrel. I've used the Allen Key (or Hex wrench). I've made this in single weave (there's also double weave) and as I don't have a clamp, I've used both hands; one to hold the mandrel and the other to control the wire.

6 feet of wire can get you about 3 inches in length only, after which you have

to add a new piece of wire to continue with the weaving to the length you require. Very tight and rigid before the stretching.

The drawplate (I've used a small wooden plank) with various sizes of holes drilled through it.

The chain is then pulled through the desired holes which will stretch them further.

The above picture shows the stretched chain, which is about 4" to 5" in length. It is now very flexible. Very short but not enough to make a cord for bracelet and necklace. Therefore, this Viking Knitting technique takes time and lots of wire. Actual pieces would be done with artistic wire, of course.

Lastly, am satisfied with the tutorial as well as the quality of my hand work.

Now I am off to do some more knitting/weaving and will be back to share

some pictures of my prototypes based on this technique.

Brecciated Jasper Copper Pendant - Commissioned Piece

This is a large gemstone focal pendant which I completed yesterday.

The gemstone is called Brecciated Jasper and is a focal curved triangle shape, 50mm long x 50mm wide x 6mm thick with a 3mm hole. Jasper is a detoxifying nice grounding stone, promoting health and organization.

The pendant is set in a frame in natural copper artistic wire and I've weaved a Blooming Rose for the bail, as well as a 17" (+ 1.5" ext) "Old Fashioned Chains" to complement the large pendant.
