Byzantine Weave Chain Maille Bracelet

I made this very thin chain maille bracelet for myself using the Byzantine Weave in three colours - silver, brass and natural copper with Botswana Agate gemstone oval bead as the focal. Wires were slowly wound around mandrels and then each coil is cut into rings one by one. These rings are then carefully woven together to create the bracelet. Necklaces, earrings, anklets could also be made out of this weave.
The main purpose I made this bracelet is to test its durability when made with the artistic wire/designer craft wires. Been wearing it for for the past 2 weeks, 24 hours a day, doing household chores without taking it off, even when showering.
Final verdict:
Still shiny and looks as good as new with the silver and brass coloured wires but the sheen has disappeared for the copper coloured section but nevertheless, I like the 'antique' look of the copper wire. Will wear it for another two weeks or so to see the outcome again.

A Short Break .....

Yoohoo... I'm back after a short break.
The Winter Solstice Festival and Christmas has been celebrated, and the year end school term is coming to an end in a week's time. I have been kept occuppied since the school holiday started last November. Now I can't wait for my children to go back to school so that I can have half the morning doing my house chores in absolute peace. Oh... how I crave for that moment! =)))
I've also been absent from my work table from time to time to deal with more important things like .....oh well, a hundred and one things that needed to be looked into. But in between all these, I still manage to steal a little bit of time pondering over the fashion or jewelry magazines for ideas and inspirations as well as to motivate myself. At times, the creative juice just won't flow and I'd be staring at my work table for nothing. Sometimes with wires and tools in hand but nothing came out of it.
The year 2010 is just a few days away and I hope to do more wire crafting as well as to learn new things that am passionate about. New year resolutions.......? Nope, making resolutions is not for me.
So, here's wishing best wishes to every one. May you find health, wealth, wisdom, good friends, good times and happiness thru' out the year. Last but not least, thank you for your support in handmade crafts.

Misc Card Collection

I was not entirely in the mood for jewelry crafting, so I "dug" out my card collection from my "treasure" box which brought a lot of old memories. These cards were collected since I was a small girl of about 7 years of age up till now, though it gets lesser nowadays due to the advancing technology as well as saving the trees from being cut down to make them.
The first birthday card I received was from my late father when I was 7 years old and year after year he would give me a card until I reached my teens. Besides birthday, I also received other cards from aunts, cousins, friends, bosses, etc. These cards will be kept in my possession until ....... (don't want to mention it, but I think you know what I'm gonna type. ;p)

Chain Mail Bracelets

I made these chain mail bracelets awhile back. This design (by Scott David Plumlee) was taken from a beading magazine and instead of using tube beads, I used Amethyst Gemstone Chips. The offset triangular jump ring sections pull the bead links into repeating parallelogram shapes while the bead-link loops alternate direction, lending visual depth.

Brass artistic wire with Amethyst Chips.

Bracelet & Earring Set

This one is a wedding knot chain mail bracelet which is a quick and easy project but you have to get the jump rings ready in advance. Large jump rings lie parallel in this elegant wedding knot chain design (Designer: Deanna Kittrell)

Personal Collection ~ Tree of Life Pendant (Turquoise Chips)

This is the Tree of Life pendant I made for myself. Completed it two days and am now wearing it. Received quite a few compliments wherever I went, even to the market. They did not believe me when I told them I made it myself.
Tree of Life Pendant, constructed with silver plated copper artistic wire and Turquoise Chips. You can see that this shape (triangle) is totally different from the ones I made previously. I wear it just below my collar bone and as the pendant is quite big, it's totally an attraction.

Tree of Life Pendant - Turquoise Chips

Another Tree of Life Pendant but this time, it's for a friend's birthday which falls next week. It's constructed with silver artistic wire with turquoise gemstone chips as well as some swarovski crystals. You can see at the bottom of the pendant (where the root is) that instead of wrapping the excess wires around the frame, I've coiled each one of them to give the pendant a slightly different look.
Hmm.... it's always for someone but not for me. I think I'll make one for myself right after this post. So, the next time you see another Tree of Life Pendant in this blog, it's definitely going to be mine. =))

Ballerina Brooch cum Pendant

Hmm... looks like I have not been updating my blog regularly.

Anyway.... I was cleaning up my dressing table drawers the other day and found this ballerina brooch in one of the jewelry boxes. It was given to me when I was a little girl by my late paternal grandmother. Don't know what it's made of but the brooch has never once change it's colour and now that I found it again, I will make it into a pendant and wear it as a necklace .

Japanese Tensha Beads

Hm........don't you just love the beautiful flower painting on the beads. Received them awhile ago. I have always been attracted to beautiful flowers, especially roses. Just can't take my eyes of them! They're made of acrylic, weightless, beautiful and EXPENSIVE. So, that is why I only ordered a few of them. The beads are focal beads but I have not decided what to do with them yet. Anyway, will keep them in a safe place until I've decided what to do with them.

Wow.... when was the last time I updated my blog. Must be weeks ago. In the mood for making earrings for the past few days. Since the hands are itching and willing to work overtime, and with fresh ideas in mind, I'd better do something before the lazy bug hit me again.
